My First Digital Image - HELLO

I have been playing with my new HP Photosmart Premium Printer/Scanner and guess what?  I created my first digital image.  I draw it with Sharpie Fine Pen in black.  I colored it with Copic marker and scanned it. Here they are.  It is a simple but fun image.

If you like it, you are welcome to take it.  Click the image and right click to Save Picture As... on to your computer.

I made a card with it.  Hope this will bring a smile to Any Hero's kid.

OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge - "On the Farm"

I made this card for OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge - "On the Farm".  I bought a digital clipart file - Barnyard Animal from Sunflower Friends.com.  On this card I used only the bunny eating carrot but there are many more images already colored so that it was easy to make it. I printed and pieced them.

I was trying to combine three concept of the Easter theme, on the Farm and Happy Spring in this one card.  However, I felt like a kind of lost somewhere. After struggling for a while, I just added a couple more of flowers. I am not sure yet which is going to be my focal point.  I will ask Paula for her professional artistic view on my cards.  Paula presented the OWH S&S Saturday Seminar Series #1 - Creating a Focal Point  last Saturday, January 29th.  If you didn't take the seminar, please go ahead. You will learn a lot.

Tips for today: Homemade Sponge Daubers

When you ink the edges of your papers or layered mat, you see the different look and you want to do more.  I have classes at work for my colleagues and I would need more of these. I found these huge sponges at Lowes yesterday and I cut them out to smaller pieces.  I tried to ink the cardstock and it worked fine.  So I wanted to share with you.  You need some tools like shown in the photo.  I used a longer tip scissors, Stampin' Up! punch, and a stapler.  Once you cut them into smaller pieces and staple the handle, you will need trim the edges to make it round.

OWH S&S Saturday Seminar Series #1 - Creating a Focal Point

One of the most important principles of design, emphasis, is fortunately also one of the easiest to master. Emphasis can best be described as creating a focal point or a center of interest. It is the most important area compared to the rest of your composition. A focal point is the part of the card that catches the recipient’s eye first. The stronger your focal point is the better your final card design will turn out, so planning ahead can have a big payoff.
There are many ways to create a focal point including placement, contrast and color. The focal point can be placed in the center of the card, or off-set to one side. It’s typically the largest element on the card. It is often an image, but it could also be the sentiment or even an embellishment like a silk flower or a tag. In some designs a focal point can also be a special element or technique, like a unique fold or a die-cut window in the card front.
Your focal point can consist of one image or embellishment, or you can create a focal point that consists of several smaller elements grouped together. When your design contains a number of elements, often one of the easiest ways to strengthen it is to bring them together so that they form a single focal point. A simple tip to commit to memory when creating a focal point from several elements is to use uneven numbers. Choose 3 or 5 as opposed to 2 or 4. Group the items close together or even overlapping so they easily create a single unit. Although they can be, the items don’t have to be the same. You might create your focal point by grouping together three flowers of varying size or color or you could combine a tag, with a flower and a bow.

OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge - Cards 4 Kids

miss you Giraffe

* UPDATE to response to Sherry's comment:
Yes, It is 12"x12" sized patterned paper. I cut out the bottom part of it into 4"x5-1/2"to make three cards. The black cardstock mat is 4-1/8"x5-1/4" cut to make a narrower border. I chalk inked all the edges with Dark Brown Chalk Ink.
